Canada vs. USA: Projected Goalie Starters
Matt Murray vs. Cory Schneider
Carter Hart has been Canada’s better goalie in the tournament but it should be Murray, the Pittsburgh Penguins star, receiving the start in the marquee finale of the preliminary round. The Stanley Cup winner has allowed eight goals on 73 shots in the tournament but he has plenty of championship experience and should be leaned on heading into the championship round.
Schneider has been USA’s top goalie thus far, stopping 101 of 109 shots on goal while playing more than 67 percent of his team’s minutes. He’s struggled with health and play in the NHL over the last couple of seasons but he seems to be finding his proper form in Slovakia.
Canada vs. USA: Best Bet
Moneyline: Canada has been the better all around team in the tournament. It’s a strong play at a modest -130.
Against the spread: It doesn’t seem to matter the year, the tournament, or the roster compositions, these two always bring out the other’s best in International play. Take USA to cover +1.5 at -250.
By the Numbers: Back the OVER on the projected total of 5.5 (-160) as two of the tournament’s top offenses meet.
